We do hove however is a "slot size" if you will, this should give you a good working knowledge of what the prices SHOULD be, if you see prices that are not really close to these please feel free to contact us or more information because you shouldn't be.

Quepos Sport Fishing Charter Questions

Q: When is the best time to fish for sailfish, marlin, tuna, etc when fishing in Quepos?

A: Mar 1 Sport fishing has provided a Fishing Calendar . The calendar allows you to see which fish are biting by month, or if you prefer you can check out a description of the season by type of fish.

Q: I want to fish for a specific species. Can Mar 1 Sport fishing arrange that?

A: Yes, it is possible to target specific species, depending on the time of year, location, water conditions and the fishing equipment you are using. There are no guarantees, but Captain Oscar and the Mar 1 Sport fishing team have ample experience in these waters, and will make every effort to fulfill your request.

Q: Do you have a catch and release fishing program?

A: Mar 1 Sport Fishing and Captain Oscar support game fish conservation efforts. All billfish are catch and r release. We use circle hooks and revival methods to ensure they are released alive. If you wish to catch and release other species, let the crew know and they will be happy to take care of it.

Q: What fishing tackle is supplied on the trip?

A: The boat is fully equipped with top-of-the-line Penn International and Okuma Reels and Shimano rods.

Q: Do I need a fishing license? Is it included with the charter?

A: To fish in Costa Rica, you need either Costa Rica issued Fishing License, which may be purchased at the dock for $25 USD. The license is valid for one year and is not included in the price of the Charter.

Q: Can I fish with my own tackle?

A: Yes you may, or in combination with tackle supplied by Mar 1 Sport fishing.

Q: What do you provide on a full-day charter?

A: The full-day charter includes lunch, fruit, soft drinks, water, beer, equipment, and your captain and mate.

Q: Do you pick us up at our hotel?

A: We can arrange round-trip transportation from your hotel to the fishing pier, picking you up at 6:45am. The cost is $25 for up to 4 people, $45 extra for groups larger than 4.

Q: What time do the boats leave?

A: Boats leave at 7:00 AM

Q: What time do the boats return?

A: Boats return at approximately 4:00 PM.

Q: What should I bring?

A: It is recommended that you bring sunscreen, a hat, NON-MARKING SHOES (no black soles please), polarized sunglasses and a camera.

Q: What type of fish can I expect to catch?

A: The Quepos Fishing Grounds are rich with many species of fish. The type of fish caught depends on the time of year, but Sailfish, Marlin, Snapper, Rooster fish, Tuna and Dorado all frequent the waters off the coast of Quepos. Read Fishing Seasons by Species for more information.

Q: Where will we be fishing?

A: Generally the Quepos Fishing fleet fishes about 20 to 30 miles offshore, or where water conditions create weed lines or color change.

Q: How many anglers can you accommodate?

A: The Mar 1 is a large boat. She can comfortably accommodate groups of up to 6 passengers in great comfort. However, the team at Mar 1 Sport Fishing recommends that serious anglers limit their group to 4 or fewer fishermen for everyone's enjoyment.

Q: Is live bait supplied with my charter?

A: Live bait is provided depending on the type of fish being targeted.

Q: Where do I get my fish cleaned?

A: Your catch will be cleaned and prepared for transport by the crew. Many Quepos and Manuel Antonio area restaurants will cook your catch for you.

Q: Do the crews on your boats speak English?

A: Yes, our Captain and mate are bilingual.

Q: Is your sport fishing boat equipped with a fighting chair?

A: Yes, the Mar 1 is equipped with a fighting chair, or you may fish with a rod belt and harness.

Q: Does the boat have a bathroom?

A: The Mar 1 has a marine head.

Q: Can your boat take us fly-fishing?

A: Yes, Captain Oscar can guide your fly fishing trip, however, Mar 1 Sport Fishing does not provide fly fishing tackle, you will need to bring your own tackle.
